As far as HA implants are concerned, the construction will become part of the bony scaffold. The discussion about pore sizes is still ongoing (Draenert et al. 2011). The recommendations range from 50–100 mm (Eggli et al. 1988) to 500–600 mm (Kühne et al. 1994; Wiese 1998). It was shown, however, that bone grows into the smallest pores as soon as vascularization is adjacent (Fig. 14a). Large implants need reasonable interconnecting openings of not less than 30–50 mm for revascularization (Fig. 14b).
